Se-Jung Oh served as the 27th President of Seoul National University (SNU) from February 2019 to January 2023.

Prior to this, Oh served as a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea from May 2016 to October 2018. He was a professor in the physics and astronomy department at SNU for 32 years. During his tenure, Oh served as the Dean of College of Natural Sciences, and became a full member of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology.
Oh’s main research interest is the study of physical properties of strongly correlated electron systems. He has published more than 160 papers and has served as a guest editor or board member of several journals, including the Journal of the Physical Society of Japan.
He served as the second president of the National Research Foundation of Korea in 2011, and the founding president of the Institute for Basic Science from 2011 to 2014.
As a member of the Korean Presidential Advisory Council on Science and Technology, Oh is active in advising the Korean government on science policies. He is a regular contributor to major Korean newspapers on scientific and educational issues.
Oh was born in Seoul, Korea, and graduated from SNU in 1975. He received his PhD in physics from Stanford University in 1982. He worked at Xerox Palo Alto Research Center until he came back to Korea in 1984 to teach at SNU. He has received numerous awards, including the Korean Science Award from the Korean government.
